The language of the code section states that:Ĥ84. Officers tend to write this charge on a citation as PC 484 or 484 PC as abbreviations for the California Penal Code. Petty theft is a misdemeanor punishable by Penal Code 484(a) PC sets forth the California crime of petty theft, defined as wrongfully taking or stealing someone else’s property when the value of the property is $950.00 or less.
